My father was a WWII Veteran, South Pacific Theater and was involved in numerous battles during the Liberation of the Phillipines. He went to college and graduate school on the GI Bill, help start a college art department from scratch, and was a loving husband and father to four children. He loved the sea. He spoke from time to time about his experiences in the US Navy, and would jump up startled if anyone awakened him from sleep but he grew older,he would often weep for his lost shipmates and for the lost Japanese sailors as well. He said to me "how is it that I had a life, and they didn't get past 20 years old?" This painting is my memories of so many of his memories.
